Protecting Your Vehicle

The parking facilities at Bemidji State University are monitored electronically to help prevent criminal activity, but this doesn't eliminate the possibility of crime from occurring.  Precautions need to be taken by everyone to insure the protection of your vehicle and property.  Theft of a motor vehicle and theft from a motor vehicle are two of the most prevalent crimes in Minnesota.  The University assumes no responsibility for damage to, or theft from your vehicle while parked on campus.

Following these few simple crime prevention tips will help you protect your property.

• Always lock your vehicle and roll up the windows.
• Never loan your vehicle or keys to anyone.
• Never leave your keys unattended in a public area.
• Place all valuables in your trunk, especially CD's.
• Use a steering wheel locking device.
• Use a locking gas cap.
• Never leave your vehicle running unattended.
• Never hide a second set of keys in your car.
• Immediately report suspicious persons in parking lots.
• Know your license plate number to help speed up recovery if your vehicle is stolen.
