Bemidji State University Summer PREP School Program In August 2007 Bemidji State University will begin a summer PREP School program for 9 th and 10 th graders in high school, who have a documented disability and are planning on or strongly considering attending postsecondary education after high school. The program provides participants an opportunity to live on campus for seven days and six nights; days are filled with workshops regarding skills and information students need to be successful in postsecondary education, whether they attend BSU or another university, technical and/or community college. Workshops will include information in three areas: academic skills, independent living skills and finally information to help students understand and manage their disability needs. Each participant will receive a workbook with workshop information as well as additional handouts that they may keep. Parents will be invited to attend a workshop on Saturday (the final workshop day) where they will be given information regarding the transition to college for students with disabilities, will be provided an opportunity to ask questions about college searches and financial aid help. Students and parents will be asked to make a commitment to filling out some final research material for the program as follow-up to the project. Surveys about what was or wasn't helpful to them during the following year and student choices about their future will need to be filled out and returned to the university for each participant. For more information about the program, application forms and other materials that need to be submitted with the application please go to the program links.
