 For Students who Work with People

who Have a Disability

 

The Bemidji State University Disability Scholarship is awarded to a student who exemplifies Bemidji State University students at their best and is committed to making a difference in the lives of people who have a disability.  Normally given in the amount of $500, this scholarship will be awarded to students who exhibit the merits and qualities of a true academian and values community building.  Scholarship applications are due April 1 each academic year and the awards are for the following fall semester. 

 

Part I.  Scholarship Eligibility

·        Applicants must be at least sophomore status, may be full or part-time student living on or off campus, and have completed one term at BSU prior to applying for the scholarship. .

·        Applicants must have documentation of having worked with a person/people with a disability.

·        Applicants must have a GPA of 3.00 or higher.

Part II.  Involvement with People who have a Disability

 

In addition to completing the spaces below, please include a letter from your supervisor certifying your work history with people with a disability.  The letter must include dates of employment and job duties.

**Applications will be scored based on duration and comprehensiveness of history of working with people with disabilities.

 

Part III.  Letters of Recommendation

 

Please submit two letters of recommendation to endorse your application.  At least one must be from a Bemidji State University faculty or staff person and the other may be a work or volunteer supervisor, or a community person.  Please include the recommendations with your completed application packet.

 

 

Part IV.  Personal Statement of Intention

 

On a separate sheet of paper, please provide a statement indicating your most significant education experience.  Describe your educational and career goals; if included in your goals, how do you intend to help individuals with disabilities reach their life goals?  If awarded this scholarship how will it help you meet your educational and career goals?

 

**Applications will be scored on grammar, spelling and organization of material that is error free and illustrates the kind of writing skills expected of students at BSU.  The statement must address all areas indicated above.
