In keeping with our goal to have accurate, current health information readily available to students, the Student Health Service maintains a Health Media Center, which is a health information resource center for students. It is located within the Student Health Service and is open for use during normal office hours. Students are free to walk in and use this resource room at their convenience; no appointment is necessary. Stop in any time!

The computer center is an area where you can view and interact with multimedia presentations. The computer is equipped with headphones for private listening. Explore programs on the computer concerning:

  • Virtual Party! (Alcohol 101 Plus, from the Century Council) A CD-ROM that allows you to party and make decisions about drinking, and see the results!
  • General health topics - CD-ROM's that cover topics for which we may not have printed brochures.
  • Healthy thinking - CD-ROM allows you to recognize and challenge those self-defeating thoughts!
  • Parenting information -CD-ROM. Pick out names, see baby's development, answers to questions.
  • Nutrition assessment - A program that lets you find the right nutrient requirements for your body type and activity level.
  • Sex in the CD (from Bacchus & Gamma) An interactive adventure in exploring sexual health. It explores the issues of healthy relationships and is designed to increase knowledge and comfort about sexual choices and situations.

The Self Assessment Area is another private area where you can choose to examine your health status. The four topic areas are:

  • Nutrition
  • Mental / Emotional Health
  • Sexual Health (free condoms available)
  • Cold Care (free cold medicines samples available)

The Library has free informational brochures, health books, health periodicals, models, educational games, and a wide variety of videos. These items are available for short time check out.

Also look for the free health brochures located in the Student Health Service lobby, Walnut Hall, Recreation Fitness Center, and the Hobson Memorial Student Union.
