Information Desk Worker

Under the supervision of the Customer Service Representative, an Information Desk worker should demonstrate the following:

PUBLIC RELATIONS SKILLS

  • Interpersonal skills
  • Effective listening skills
  • Effective phone skills
  • Knowledge of BSU campus and community

WORK RELATED REQUIREMENTS

  • Keyboarding skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic math skills
  • Familiarity with cash registers
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with co-workers and customers
  • Flexibility in scheduling

Information Desk workers perform the following:

  • Answers phone and forwards calls to appropriate personnel or logs message
  • Makes copies as requested, including transparencies
  • Laminates documents, cards, posters, etc. using the large roller or letter sized laminator
  • Cashes checks for students and faculty
  • Sells stamps
  • Gives refunds for lost money in vending machines
  • Delivers and picks up documents and other items to offices and buildings as requested
  • Sends faxes
  • Creates new and replacement ID cards for students, staff and faculty
  • Checks out laptops and logs information
  • Checks out room keys for scheduled events; provides access to other areas in the HMU as requested using manager's keys
  • Approves and posts flyers on HMU and other bulletin boards, hangs banners and distributes table tents as requested
  • Types documents and envelopes, designs flyers and posters using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
