International Student Orientation Handbook
International Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration
The International Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration provides experiences and opportunities that include the following services:
- Faculty advising sessions
- Math assessment and class placement recommendations
- English skills assessment
- Review of Immigration regulations
- Visit with local banking representatives
- Registration for classes
Attendance at the International Student Orientation is mandatory. Your questions regarding Bemidji State University, class registration, immigration regulations, etc., will be addressed during this orientation program.
* Late arrival will delay your course registration.
International Student Orientation Dates
For New International Students entering Fall Semester 2009:
Orientation Dates: August 19-20, 2009
It is essential that you arrive in Bemidji no later than August 18, 2009, to assure your attendance at the Orientation program, which begins on August 19, 2009.
For New International Students entering Spring Semester 2010:
Orientation Dates: January 6-7, 2010
It is essential that you arrive in Bemidji no later than January 5, 2010, to assure your attendance at the Orientation program, which begins on January 6, 2010.
Overnight Accommodations
All new entering international students are advised to live on campus.
Advantages:
- resident tuition rates
- no worries about securing other housing
- no transportation concerns
- housing available during orientation
- support from hall staff
- greater sense of being part or the BSU community
Students who still choose to live off campus must make their own arrangements for off-campus housing, prior to arrival.
Arrivals:
When you arrive for International Student Orientation, you will need to arrange for temporary room accommodations until your semester housing contract assignment begins. Students who submit an on-campus housing contract may request from Residential Life to move in early. Students who do not intend to live in on-campus housing will be responsible to secure your own housing arrangements.
*Temporary accommodations are approximately $25.00 a night, excluding tax.
