International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration

The International Student Orientation provides experiences and opportunities that include the following services:

  • Math assessment and class placement recommendations
  • English skills assessment
  • Review of immigration regulations
  • Visit with local banking representatives
  • Health and wellness advising
  • Introduction to American culture
  • Registration for classes
  • Student activities and on-campus involvement 

Attendance at the International Student Orientation is mandatory. Your questions regarding Bemidji State University, class registration, immigration regulations, etc., will be addressed during this time.

* Late arrival will delay your course registration.

International Student Orientation Dates

Future Orientation Dates:

Spring 2015: January 7-9, 2015

Fall 2015: August 19-23, 2015*
Spring 2016: January 6-8, 2016

Fall 2016: August 17-21, 2016
Spring 2017: January 4-6, 2017

Fall 2017: August 16-20, 2017
Spring 2018: January 3-5, 2018

*Please note that for international students, fall orientation includes international plus domestic orientation sessions.

It is essential that you arrive in Bemidji at least one full day before your mandatory orientation, to ensure your attendance at the Orientation program.

Housing Accommodations

All new entering international students are advised to live on campus.


  • No worries about securing other housing
  • No transportation concerns
  • Housing is available during orientation
  • Support from hall staff
  • Greater sense of belonging to the BSU community

Students who still choose to live off campus must make their own arrangements for off-campus housing, prior to arrival.

To Apply for Housing

As soon as you receive your Admitted Student Packet, submit your On-Campus Housing Application/Contract to the Department of Residential Life. Once you know your arrival date in Bemidji, you may wish to contact the Department of Residential Life to request early check-in. If available, Residential Life will notify you of the cost and dates available.
