DEPARTMENT PLAN (DP) for ADVISING
for Quarter to Semester Substitution
of Sequence and Consolidated Courses

The following plan, prepared by the department, will be used to advise students regarding quarter to semester substitutions of sequence and consolidated courses. The plan is based on the following Policies and Practices for Semester Conversion Advising (Semester Conversion Committee; Faculty Senate):

  • Options for meeting the No Retake Policy when students already have completed in quarters a portion of a semester course
    1. Using an All-University number, departments may allow students to enroll for variable credit to complete a portion of a semester course.
    2. Using All-University numbers, departments may design and offer appropriate transitional courses.
    3. Departments may waive portions of a sequence course requirement.
  • This plan is subject to revision and interpretation.
  • For substitution of courses not listed here, see the Quarter to Semester Course Substitution list

Quarter Course
(Number and Title)
Option
(1, 2 or 3 from above, or description of other option/s)

All first, second, and third year language courses are sequential. Those students who take one quarter of a sequence or two quarters of a sequence and are "caught" in the change to semesters will be advised by the instructor of the course in question to register for 1 or 2 semester credits to complete the course work or, as appropriate to the student. The student will be allowed to join the course at the point where his or her work in the quarter course(s) left off. The students who find themselves in this situation will be advised on a one-to-one basis in conference with the instructor.
