Instructions for Bemidji State University Students Seeking Initial MN  Licensure

 

The application process for Minnesota Licensure has changed.  You will now be required to apply online and then deliver your supporting documents to Educator Licensing within 60 days of your online application.  See the attached instructions for this online application and resulting fees. 

  1. Complete all PPST and PRAXIS testing and have the results sent directly to Bemidji State University.  Make certain you have passed all required testing.  (If your degree has been awarded but testing results were deficient or missing at that time you should notify us by phone or mail to initiate the “Verification of Completion” when the testing requirements are met.)

 

  1. Complete all degree requirements.  Your degree will need to be posted to your transcript before we can endorse your application.  If you have any reason to believe your degree requirements will not be met, including all grades recorded and reasonable time for the degree to be recorded, you should delay the online application process.  You will only have 60 days to submit all supporting documentation to the MN Department of Education after you have completed the initial online process without forfeiting your application fee.

                       

  1. Apply online for your Initial Application

 

    1. Upon graduation or initial program completion, you will be mailed a “Verification of Completion” form from BSU.

 

    1. Go to http://education.state.mn.us/mde/index.html and click on Teacher Support/Educator Licensing on the right hand side of this screen.  This is under Teacher Support.  Click on “Apply For Your License”  on the next screen.  Read the information on this screen and then click to access the Center for Educator Licensing.

 

c.       You will be required to select a user ID and a password that you will use each time you access this site.  Make sure that it is something that you can easily remember.

d.      All applications require a processing fee.  Payment is made by using VISA or MasterCard through a secure site at US Bank.

e.      They will not begin processing your application until online payment has been made and confirmed.

f.        When you are finished, make sure to log out as you do not want someone else to access this information.

g.      Include the “processing number” you receive on the verification of completion form you received from BSU.           

4.      We will be able to endorse your license if your degree is complete and posted to your transcript and all PPST/PRAXIS tests are passed.  We will sign and mail the verification form to you.  (If you do not receive your licensure endorsement with your diploma due to testing deficiencies you will need to notify BSU when you have qualified for endorsement.)  Send your packet of application materials as described under the General Instructions to the Minnesota Department of Education.  We have been instructed that transcripts will no longer be required for those students graduating from a Minnesota college or university.
