Outdoor Program Center Kayak Instruction

 

Kayaking is the fastest growing water sport in the US. The agile, seaworthy craft are capable of ocean journeys as well as an evening paddle down the river. The OPC offers a basic introduction to safety skills where you can practice paddling capsize recovery and rescues under the direction of experienced trip leaders. Bring your swimsuit and towel to the safety courses, which are offered on the lake when the weather allows and in the pool during the winter months. Once you have completed the Kayak Safety Course you may rent a kayak from the OPC and take it on your own expedition. Kayak trips are open to all skill levels - the trip leaders will plan time to review the safety course in the pool before you leave. "Kayak Lake Bemidji" is also open to beginners who haven't tried the safety course.
