In 1978 I came to Bemidji State University for what I thought would be a period of five years. The fact that I have stayed here for 30 years is a testament to how much I enjoy the students, staff, faculty, and Bemidji area! I love working in Residential Life and with students because I know the value our staff, facilities, programs and peer to peer relationships make in the experience each resident has while being a student at BSU. I spend much of my time orchestrating the budgets and facilities for Residential Life, but my best days are when I leave the office knowing that I have made a difference for students. This sense of satisfaction may happen with one student, with a group of students, or when we open a newly renovated facility as we recently did with Linden Hall.
In preparation for my professional work I received a Bachelors degree in Secondary Education, Social Sciences and a Master's Degree in College Student Personnel from Michigan State University. I also did post graduate work in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota. Whether in the classroom or my office I have the opportunity to learn and be challenged each day.
When not at work, my wife Michelle and I enjoy our family that includes four daughters, five cats, and two Labrador retrievers. I am active in the out-of-doors with fishing, hunting, and training my labs for hunting and for competition in field trials and hunt tests. I also like to gather any kind of wild berries and I pick a variety of spring and fall mushrooms.
