Welcome to the
First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) Program!

The First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) program is a voluntary program which assigns interested new traditional-aged BSU students to a common living area in order to provide specialized living, learning, and advising programs and services with the intent of increasing student learning and retention.



The program involves: The benefits of FYRE:
  • 360 Students (180 men and 180 women) living on six residence hall floors.
  • Men are assigned to 4A, 4B, 2C and 4C Oak. Women are assigned to 3A, 2B and 3C Oak. 1B and 3B are the only Coed floors in the FYRE program.
  • Enrollment in the FYE Seminar class - 1 credit in the fall.
  • Faculty advisor is the FYE Seminar class professor.
  • 2 Peer Academic Assistants living on your floor
  • Meeting more people right away
  • Getting more involved
  • Getting to know your Faculty/Academic Advisor
  • Knowing about resources and information such as: 
    • Tutoring assistance Clubs/Organizations
    • Academic Resource Center/Career Center
    • Writing Center campus procedures
    • Future academic planning
