A transformation of BSU's residence halls has begun. For the first time in 30 years, plans are underway to significantly update and reconfigure the residence halls to better meet the needs of students.
"The residence hall changes are just the beginning of the transformation as we strive to give our students an unparalleled living and learning experience." - Dale Ladig, Director, Residential Life
A Destination of Choice
During this upcoming school year, Walnut Hall will become a destination of choice for residential hall students and the campus community. Whether searching for a quick packaged snack or fresh produce at the expanded convenience store or looking to eat a meal and chat with friends at Northwoods Dining Center, they will find many of the services they've requested.
Meal Plans Stretched for
More Flexibility
Students asked for even more flexibility in their meal plan choices, and they go it! Two new meal plans this fall give students unprecedented options. The Any 200 plan includes 200 meals in the dining center each semester, ten of which can be used for guests. Students also receive $315 in Beaver Bucks. The Any 100 plan offers 100 anytime meals plus $550 in Beaver Bucks. The Beaver Bucks 1050 offers the ultimate in flexibility. Students may use Beaver Bucks in the dining center, the Lakeside food court, or in the campus convenient stores. The $735 Beaver Bucks plan is especially designed for students who have earned 30 or more credits.
More Programs Being Planned
Beside renovating buildings and offering more meal-plan choices, Residential Life is teaming with the folks at the student union and the rec center to bring more student-centered programming to the residence halls. Plans are underway and will be announced throughout the year.
Watch the Transformation Unfold
Watch for updates throughout our Suite Transformation. We'll have plans and updates on the Residential Life web pages, in our newsletter, and on the bulletin boards outside our offices in Walnut Hall. We'll even have a model of the suites, and a showroom is now ready to visit so you can see what the suites will be like.
The opportunity to transform the residence halls is something we've envisioned for a long time. We'll be able to offer more high-demand living spaces for students; deliver more residential-based entertainment, recreational, and learning activities; and truly provide a home-away-from home environment. Oh, What A Suite Deal!
The goal is to transform the living space in residence halls into suites and other resident-friendly areas such as "club spaces" for relaxing, watching TV, and kicking-back with friends. When the transformation is complete, students living on campus will have the conveniences and amenities they've been asking for. Some of the changes will include more private living space, better temperature control of rooms, more personal storage space, and technological updates-everything from card-operated laundry machines to wireless access.
By Spring 2008, the suites of Linden Hall are scheduled to welcome students back. Those not living in Linden Hall will reside in Birch, Pine, Oak-A & B Wings, Tamarack and Maple Halls, Cedar and Oak-C Wing are closed. Cedar Apartments will continue to welcome single-parent families.
The Suite Beginnings
For the past three years, we've been gathering ideas and gaining momentum through fact finding. We have solicited opinions, conducted research, held focus groups, visited other colleges and universities, and met with architects. From the information that was collected, the suite transformation plans emerged.
