Break Staff
Basic Function and Responsibility:
The purpose of the break program is to provide services to students during the mid-semester and semester breaks. Desk services and various programs are provided to students residing in all halls on a limited basis with staff accessible on a 24-hour basis.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsibility for working at the hall desks and in the Department of Residential Life.
- Serve as a representative for BSU and the Department of Residential Life.
- Conduct the check-in/out procedures for break and/or conferences/guests.
- Act as a resource person to insure implementation of program.
- Provide programs, e.g., social gatherings, films, etc. to break students.
- Work scheduled hours at each hall desk; provide information to students; take messages; sort and distribute mail.
- Use keys in responsible manner.
- Rotate On-Duty responsibility with other staff.
- Report maintenance needs, damages and conduct violations.
- Perform various work assignments in the Department of Residential Life, e.g., typing, filing, forwarding mail, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Supervision Received:
The break staff are supervised by the Area Directors/Residence Hall Directors and the Secretary/Receptionist of Residential Life.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Work-study eligibility preferred.
- Knowledge of BSU residence halls and campus offices.
- Typing, filing, writing skills, and office skills.
- Administrative skills, i.e., organization and follow through on assigned tasks.
- Good public relations.
- A minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0.
- In good standing with the BSU Conduct System.
- Live-in required.
REMUNERATION
Hourly rate plus room. This is a temporary live-in position for approximately 20 scheduled hours per week. Preference may be given to those available for the full break period, with Residence Hall experience and work-study eligibility.
