Section 1:
The BSUSA Student Senate shall consist of two (2) co-chaired committees that take on projects/concerns as they are brought to the Student Senate. The committees may also bring forward projects/concerns that they would like to see the Student Senate address:
University Affairs shall work on projects primarily concerning issues related to BSU as a whole. Some of these issues include, but are not limited to:
Academics
University finances
Student Affairs shall work on projects primarily concerning issues that directly affect students and student organizations. Some of these include, but are not limited to:
Student Housing
Student Fees
B) Academic Affairs. This
committee shall be responsible for making recommendations to the Senate
concerning academic issues; the status of student-faculty relations; informing
students of academic policy changes; exchanging information and ideas with
the University Academic Affairs Committee; and recommending a student representative
to the Student Senate President for appointment.
C) Student Services. This
committee shall be responsible for making recommendations to the Student
Senate pertaining to student services issues; organize and plan student
service activities and functions; handle student complaints; exchange information
and ideas with the University Student Services Committee, Dining Services
Committee, and other pertinent committees; and recommending student representatives
for these committees to the Student Senate President for appointment.
D)
Public Relations. This committee shall be responsible for making recommendations
to the Student Senate regarding communications with the BSUSA; communicating
Student Senate concerns and issues to the media; and assisting with advertising
for Student Senate activities, events and elections.
E) Diversity Awareness.
This committee shall promote better understanding between the differing
diversity groups on the BSU campus and in the surrounding community; make
recommendations to Senate regarding all manners of diversity issues; exchanging
information and ideas with pertinent University Committees; and recommend
student representatives for these committees to the Student Senate President
for appointment.
Section 2:
The Student Senate shall appoint eight (8) members to serve for terms of one academic year on the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee (SAFAC).
The composition of this committee shall be no more than two (2) Student Senators.
The Chair of this committee shall be appointed by the Student Senate President and ratified by a majority vote of the Student Senate.
The Vice Chair of this committee shall be appointed by the SAFAC Chair and be ratified by a majority vote of the SAFAC.
SAFAC will work under the Constitution and bylaws of the Student Senate but will retain their own policies and guidelines as stated in the SAFAC handbook, provided that they are in compliance with the Student Senate Constitution and its bylaws.
The SAFAC Chair or his/her designee will report monthly to the Student Senate on the actions and issues of SAFAC.
The Student Senate will not approve individual SAFAC budgets, but will review and recommend SAFAC’s final budget as a whole before it is forwarded to the Vice President for Finance and Administration for his/her recommendation to the University President.
Section 3: All committees shall meet weekly during the academic year and the membership of these committees shall be open to all members of the BSUSA.
