New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation is August 23-24, 2013. 

Bemidji State University believes one of the most important experiences for every student is Orientation. New Student Orientation is the kick-off of the academic year for all students new to Bemidji State University, both as first time college students and transfer students. All of our new fall students are expected to participate.

Students will be broken into small groups of 20-25 students led by faculty and student orientation leaders. Your orientation group will include you and other students registered for your First Year Experience course. The weekend will offer many learning opportunities including community service, social networking and need to know information. You'll learn:

• What BSU expects of you as a student in and out of the classroom
• What resources are available at Bemidji State University and the community of Bemidji and how to take advantage of them
• How to become involved in campus activities both in and out of the classroom
• Where to find campus academic support as well as personal and social support

The capstone of the weekend is the candle lit academic Convocation on Sunday evening. In commemoration of your attendance at the ceremony and induction into BSU, you will receive a special gift. Convocation will officially mark the beginning of your academic journey as a member of the Bemidji State University student community.

When classes start on Monday, August 27, you and your fellow students will be off to a running start!

*NOTE: Some of the surrounding area hotels require a minimum two nights stay.  Please make sure, if you are making hotel arrangements, to mention that you are attending Bemidji State University New Student Orientation. 

A nonrefundable $40 fee for New Student Orientation will be added to all Fall 2012 new to BSU student fee statements. The fee is in place to support students' transition to Bemidji State University through New Student Orientation weekend-long program, as well as throughout fall semester.  The fee is applied to all new students enrolled in 6 or more on-campus credits.     

Orientation Leaders 2013

We are no longer accepting applications for Orientation Leaders.    

We are looking for students who are interested in providing leadership to new students and their parents as they transition to Bemidji State University during Orientation Weekend 2013.  If you were an Orientation Leader last year for New Student Orientation 2012 we welcome you to fill out an application for 2013.  

Please complete an Orientation Leader Application and return it to the Advising Success Center in Sanford Hall 101.
