Peer Advisor

The role of Peer Advisors is to assist students in their transition to the university.  Peer Advisors offer to meet with students one-on-one. We have peer advisors in two locations,

Students can drop in or make an appointment to meet with peer advisors about;

  • Navigating e-services: preparing for registration, drop, withdraw, finding financial aid information
  • Connecting with Student Services: TRIO, Tutoring, Advisor, Career Services, Student Center for Health and Counseling Disability Services, Veteran Services.
  • Building Class Schedule: Graduation Planning, DARS
  • Access to BSU Library On-line: Research resources Forms: Advisor Change, Change Major, Petitions

 

 

Amanda Minske

My name is Amanda Minske and I am senior at BSU. I am majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. Next year I plan to attend graduate school to proceed with my education and receive a master’s degree in either in Career Counseling or Student Affairs. I am from Bemidji, MN and in my free time I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend, friends, and family. I also work off campus at Big Apple Bagels as a manger. For my sophomore and junior years at BSU I was a Residential Assistant, this was one of the best opportunities that I have been a part of at BSU.

Channin Smith

My name is Chanin Smith and I am a junior at BSU,  majoring in Elementary Education with a communication/language arts endorsement.  I am originally from the small town of International Falls, located only 2 hours from Bemidji.  I love summer time and being out on the lake.  I am also a hockey cheerleader here at BSU.  I’ve always loved kids and am excited to become an Elementary teacher, hoping to teach 1st grade.  I enjoy meeting new people and helping others in any way I can!

Vincent Staples

My name is Vincent Staples-Graves & I am a junior at BSU, Majoring in Indian Studies, & Minoring in Ojibwe Language. I have been Chairman of the BSU Pow-Wow Committee since my freshmen year, as well as being on the Council of Indian Students (CIS). I served as President of CIS for 2 years and have held the position of Vice President of American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES).  I also served on the Presidents’ Student Commission. I enjoy working with our AIRC community and am happy to help in any way I can. Miigwech-  

 Russ Dahlke

I am Russ Dahlke and I am a senior here at Bemidji State. I am a triple major in mathematics, actuarial mathematics, and economics with minors in business administration, chemistry, and computer science. For the past three years I have been holding walk-in tutor hours in math, statistics, and economics for the Advising Success Center. I formerly attended the University of Minnesota for two years before transferring back to BSU (I obtained an AA Degree in 2009). I enjoy knowledge, video games, hockey, and engineering.

 

 

Amber Dorr

My name is Amber Dorr and I am a junior here at BSU. I am majoring in Psychology and plan to go onto graduate school to receive my masters. I am the President of the Psychology club, the secretary for the Students for the Environment club and the treasurer for the Council of Indian students. I enjoy biking, going to movies and concerts during my free time.

Samantha Fairbanks

Boozhoo! My name is Samantha Fairbanks and I am a senior at BSU. I am currently working on a B.S. in Social Work and an Indian Studies minor. I am involved in the Council of Indian Students and have held positions as the Secretary and Vice President. I am great at writing and enjoy subjects like Indian Studies, Ojibwe language and Social Work. Peer advising is very important for any student that wants to be successful throughout their college career. 

Enrique Goose

My name is Enrique Goose. I am an Indian Studies Major, minoring in Ojibwe language. I am a senior and a full time student here at BSU; I co-facilitate the Ojibwe Language Table, and I am a member of the Council of Indian Students (CIS). I enjoy being outside, hanging out, hunting, laughing, and enjoying nature.

David Northbird

My name is David Northbird; I am from Cass Lake MN, a member of the Eagle Clan, and an enrolled member of the Red Lake Nation. I am married (Mika), and have three children. I am a triple major in Mathematics B.S. (Teachers License), Elementary Education B.S. (Teachers License) and Indian Studies B.A. After graduation in 2015, I plan on entering a graduate program to study Education Administration. I enjoy singing and dancing at traditional powwows, and like most sports including basketball, and football.
