Transition Planning

Individuals with disabilities who are planning on attending postsecondary education should begin planning well in advance for the transition to higher education.  Information is not always given to this population with respect to the college search process.  For more information on steps the student can take to begin to prepare for postsecondary eduation and the college search process, the following link may be helpful.

Making and following through on a decision to enroll in postsecondary education can be an anxious time for students as they begin their transition to college. This is a time fraught with change; college students are adults by law and must assume the responsibility for identifying that they have a disability and providing documentation that a specific academic adjustment or accommodation is warranted. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has answered some of the frequently asked questions that parents and students have regarding academic adjustments in postsecondary education.
