The A. C. Clark Library is seeking conscientious, service-oriented, and responsible students who would enjoy working with library borrowers in a service capacity at the library’s circulation desk for summer, May 13, 2013 – August 2nd, 2013.
General Requirements:
Must be dependable, prompt, alert, and follow directions and procedures well, and commit to keeping scheduled work hours. The work schedule are daytime hours, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., with the library closed on the weekends. Usually students in this position work between 10-25 hours a week. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team in a service environment. Individual duties will require computer use, attention to detail, good interpersonal and communication skills, good judgment, and self-reliance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Typical duties are opening and closing of the library, checking library materials out and in, assisting library users in the use of photocopiers, microform reader/printers, and public use computer equipment, and retrieving and reshelving library items located at the circulation desk.

The offices of the president, academic affairs and student development and enrollment are seeking a highly motivated student employee(s) to provide office assistance in our administrative offices.
This is a work-study and/or regular payroll position(s). The maximum hours per week during the academic year is 20 hours/per position; 40 hours/per week during breaks.
Employment Dates:
Summer 2013 and following academic year. Must be able to work winter and spring breaks.
Job Duties:
• Answering and/or placing phone calls and taking detailed messages
• Receiving, sorting and distributing incoming and outgoing mail
• Conduct tasks using the Microsoft Office Suite (PC, Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point and Access)
• Photocopying, scanning, faxing, filing, sorting, shredding, etc.
• Checking and entering data, updating databases as necessary
• Monitoring inventory of office supplies
• Keeping administrative area, including conference rooms and workroom, neat and clean. Workroom should be restocked daily.

Students are an integral part of the working team in the Hagg-Sauer Reception Center located in HS 389. We are the main office for the Liberal Education program at Bemidji State University. Our building houses offices for 19 departments under two different colleges. Along with two full-time Office and Administrative Assistants, we employ up to 7 student assistants, at various times during the week, to serve approximately 100 faculty and staff. Most students take classes in our building at some time during their school tenure.
Duties of an office assistant include but are not limited to:
answering phones and taking accurate messages
directing students and answering questions they may have
canceling classes according to office procedure and posting signs
running errands to various offices on campus
making photocopies, scanning and e-mailing documents on the copier
faxing documents
sorting and distributing packages and mail to faculty and staff
signing in papers for classwork and putting them in mailboxes
administering make-up exams
typing documents on the computer
sorting, collating, and filing papers
helping stock paper and supplies and refilling office machines
assisting professors with projects
general cleanup of office and lounge
There are many general office duties that may not be listed here.
We depend heavily on our student assistants to keep the office running smoothly. Students must be responsible and trustworthy, have good communication skills and be reliable. They should dress appropriately for public service. Your activities away from the office, reflect on all of us, so please make wise choices. Student assistants, in turn will learn many skills, become acquainted with the faculty and other offices on campus and have a high quality employment experience working for a variety of personality types.
