Our Staff

The Student Center for Health and Counseling is staffed with a group of higly trained licensed professionals, who are committed to work together to provide you with a highest quality care. The SCHC continually supports the professional development of our staff members by maintaining professional licensure, maintaining membership in professional organizations, and providing and integrating research in all areas of our professional services including cutting edge research in the area of problem gambling.

Barb Eriksson-Capes

Director - Student Center for Health and Counseling, Certified Family Nurse Practitioner

  • BSN, MS Adult Health/Nsg. Administration and Family Nurse Practitioner Certification - University of North Dakota
  • Certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)
  • Provides direction and leadership for the department and provides primary health care, health promotion and health maintenance for BSU students

Kristi Reiplinger

Licensed Practical Nurse, Office Manager and United HealthCare Student Resources Insurance Advocate

  • Licensed Practical Nurse, AAS, Northwest Technical College
  • Provides support and assistance to medical providers caring for BSU students
  • Provides administrative assistance to the medical and counseling staff and supervises student workers who assist with reception tasks
  • Serves as liaison with students and the United Healthcare Student Resource

Jennifer Pirkl

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker - Student Center for Health and Counseling, LICSW

  • Provides individual, couple and group counseling services and diagnostic assessment to BSU students and consultation services to BSU faculty and staff  

 

Lawrence J. Hanus

  • Provides direction and leadership for counseling services, diagnostic assessment, psychological testing and evaluations to BSU students and consultation services to BSU faculty and staff

Carissa Erickson

Graduate Assistant - Student Center for Health & Counseling

  • B.A. Psychology from Bemidji State University
  • Currently working on M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Bemidji State University
  • Provides assistance to SCHC staff, performs routine office tasks, and assists with special projects

Health Education

Jacob (Jay) Passa

Health Education Coordinator - Student Center for Health and Counseling

  • B.S. Bemidji State University
  • Coordinates campus health education outreach program, serves as advisor for campus peer health education group, coordinates the Responsible Men Responsible Women Orientation Program, serves as compliance officer for the Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Act, and facilitates a drug prevention and education component of the PIER-9 program
