Student Insurance Plan

We encouraged you to carry health insurance. If you aren't already covered by your parent's plan, insurance is available to you through the Minnesota State University Student Health Plan. You may purchase the plan from the Cashier's Office in Deputy Hall during the first two weeks of each academic semester.

Using Insurance at the Student Center for Health and Counseling

 The SCHC is a provider for many different insurance companies. You must update the information we have on file for you each year, including your insurance card in order for us to file your claims. Students are not billed until after notification from the insurance company. Any charges the insurance company does not pay will be the student's responsibility. If you choose to pay a bill before the insurance reimbursement arrives, the Cashier's Office will issue a check to you once we receive reimbursement from your insurance provider.

Filing Your Own Claim

If a student has insurance with a company for which we do not file a claim, an itemized statement can be requested at the time of the visit. You will be expected to pay BSU for the charges, and the insurance reimbursement should be sent directly to you.

Cost

Costs are considerably lower at the SCHC, and out-of-pocket expenses are kept to a minimum. This is a consideration especially for students with a large deductible on their insurance.
