Services for Faculty and Staff

The Student Center for Health and Counseling provides support services to faculty and staff to assist you in your efforts to help students who may be in distress.

Consultations

The Student Center for Health and Counseling provides consultations to faculty and staff regarding any issue concerning a student's welfare. We can help you assess a student's needs, coach you on how to approach and talk with a student in distress, and advise you on the best way to make a referral, when appropriate.

If you feel a student is in crisis, offer to let them use your phone to call the counseling center, or walk with them over to the counseling center. Every effort will be made to provide a same day appointment for the student. See, making a referral for counseling services for more information.

Training and Presentations

Training and psycho-educational presentations are available upon request, as staff time and resources permit, to academic departments, student groups, classes, residence halls, and faculty and staff.  If you would like to set up a presentation, please call us at 218-755-2024.

This guide is made available to help you identify students who may be in distress, and need help or intervention. Strategies are offered to help you communicate with the student in a non-threatening and useful way.
