Choking - Airway Obstruction
Conscious person
If the person can speak, cough, or breath, do not interfere.
If the person cannot speak, breath or cough, give forceful upward abdominal thrusts (between the navel and the bottom of the rib cage). Repeat sequence until successful. If victim becomes unconscious, use procedure below.
Unconscious person
Place person on back, open airway and try to blow into lungs.
If airway is blocked, give 5 quick upward abdominal thrusts (between the navel and the bottom of the rib cage).
Clear mouth with a finger sweep; attempt to ventilate.
