Welcome to TRIO Student Support Services!

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program from the US Department of Education. The Bemidji State University TRIO SSS program provides comprehensive and confidential academic and personal support to first generation college students, students who qualify for financial aid, and students who have documented disabilities. Our distinctive program provides the environment, guidance and resources to help participating students:

  • Do well academically
  • Graduate in a timely manner
  • Get accepted into a graduate or professional school

TRIO Student Support Services participants benefit from:

  • Courses to help participants be successful in college and prepare for professional careers.
  • Highly individualized academic, personal and financial advising
  • Tutoring
  • Connections with students of similar backgrounds
  • Cultural and social events
  • Leadership opportunities

Since its first year of operation at BSU in 1970, thousands of first generation college students, students who qualify for financial aid, and students who have documented disabilities have received personal and academic support through participation in the TRIO SSS program.

Participation is voluntary and free of charge, and is based on eligibility, selection, and enrollment in credit-earning courses that count toward graduation. In addition, other services offered result in effective study habits and an increased likelihood of student academic success.
