Counseling and academic advising provided by TRIO/SSS is highly individualized. Students are assisted with admission procedures, financial aid information, course and program planning, career directions and personal concerns. Phil Dahl and Sarah Young, Academic Advisors, also teach several sections of College Orientation and Life Career Planning each semester. Their expertise is Liberal Education and Liberal Education advising. They each provide advising for the majority of the new students in the TRIO/SSS program. College is different than high school. Many students feel lost when they first arrive on campus. They are not sure how things work or where to go for help. Some students are afraid that they are not smart enough to succeed in their classes. Through our individual advising and courses, students gain a sense of accomplishment and the confidence they need to pursue a degree and graduate. If you are feeling lost at BSU, have concerns about your classes or want to register for one of our three courses, come to lower Sanford Hall and talk to one of our faculty or staff. We are here to help students be successful and graduate.
