About Sarah

My name is Sarah Young and I was a first-generation college student! I grew up in a small town in South Dakota and neither of my parents had attended college.

When I started college, I was scared and homesick. I would have greatly benefited from the classes and services that our SSS program provides to BSU students. Our SSS classes would have given me some academic support, and the one-on-one advising would have helped me gain a better sense of direction earlier in my academic career.

After graduating, I decided that I loved college so much I wanted to work at one. I graduated with my M.S. in Counseling and Student Affairs and have been at BSU for over 12 years helping other first-generation students navigate through the system.
