About the Upward Bound Program

The Upward Bound Program at Bemidji State University started in 1966 and is funded through the United States Department of Education (USDE).  The program serves approximately 100 students from seven area high schools and provides services to students year round.  The Upward Bound staff is committed to supporting student development, expanding cultural awareness, and encouraging students to find their personal path to academic success.

Opportunities to enhance academic success include: advising, tutoring, mentoring activities and a summer program where students have a 'college experience' attending classes and residing on campus.

All services and activities provided by Upward Bound are at NO COST to participants.  The only cost to students is time, dedication and a willingness to do their best.

Mission

Upward Bound is a U.S. Department of Education program hosted by Bemidji State University that has two important purposes:

• To motivate participating youth to consider education beyond high school;
• To prepare participants to succeed in a program of post-secondary education.
