Meet the WRC Staff
All of us writing assistants have experience writing at the university level and have taken a special course
preparing us for work as peer tutors for writing. As you get to know us you will find that each of us is different, with a different tutoring style. Let us know what works for
you and we'll do our best to help.

Hi, I’m Anie. I graduated
from Anoka Senior High here in Minnesota. I’m a sophomore studying
Creative and Professional Writing. In addition to the Writing
Resource Center, I also work in the Language Lab. Feel free to ask
me about Rivers Meeting (the campus poetry and art publication) or
the Honors Association. I’m happily involved in both. I look forward
to seeing you! |

Hey, I'm Zachary Burke, a
sophomore from Naples, Florida. I moved to Minnesota in sixth grade
to escape the golf courses and have been living in Bemidji ever
since. Though I'm not a creative writing major, I've always enjoyed
writing and the opportunity to lend a hand. I've had quite a bit of
experience with creative writing workshops and am eager to apply
what I've learned to helping anyone who comes to the Writing
Resource Center. |

Hi there— I am Sara Dennison,
a senior this year majoring in Creative and Professional Writing and minoring
in Spanish and Outdoor Education. I was born in the foothills of Wheat Ridge,
Colorado. When I was twelve I moved to an old mining town in the Rockies called
Central City for the duration of middle school. I moved again to Ellison Bay,
Wisconsin for the remainder of my precollege education. There is no solid reason
why I chose Bemidji aside from a gut feeling that it was simply the right place
for me. Upon my arrival to the Northwoods, I was driven to pursue a major in
Biology and Psychology. Things changed as did my focus. I have always enjoyed
writing but more recently have felt obliged to make it part of my future. I look
forward to meeting you! |

Hello – My name is Andrew Evans.
I’m currently a junior and I hale from the suburbs surrounding Minneapolis. My
background at BSU begins with a few sketchy semesters spent familiarizing myself with
Sattgast Hall. Then, once I had satiated my appetite for biology and chemistry,
I decided to make the switch to the English department. I’ll be earning a B.A.
sometime soon, and will likely pursue another major or minor. Amongst my many other
quirks, you’ll soon find that I’m a puzzle junkie and fond of word games. |

My name is Tyler Vagle. I was born
and raised in Thief River Falls, MN. I am an English major here at BSU. I
suppose you could call this my senior year, although I don't think I'll finish
my degree until fall 2009. I am an older returning student. My goal is to get
my Masters in English at BSU and become a college English Teacher. I sincerely
hope that I can be of some useful assistance to any writing project you may have. |

Hello--I'm Brian Donovan, Professor of English and director of the Writing Resource Center since Fall of 1998, when I took over from my energetic and brilliant predecessor Michael Morgan. I have loved writing centers ever since joining the tutoring staff at the Writing Center at SUNY Albany, then run by Steve North and later by Lil Brannon. (Steve had slept on my floor when he visited the University of Iowa doing research for a doctoral dissertation on writing centers, but I don't think that was his only reason for taking me on when I showed up at Albany.) For more about me, see
my home page . If you are wondering where my moustache went, I have sacrificed it to a new hobby: SCUBA diving. (The mask seals better without it).
Come on down to HS 110 for one-on-one help with your writing projects--and remember, when you're just getting started and may not even have anything down on paper yet, that may be the best time of all to start working with one of our Writing Assistants. See you there! |
