All of us writing assistants have experience writing at the university level and have taken a special course preparing us for work as peer tutors for writing. As you get to know us you will find that each of us is different, with a different tutoring style. Let us know what works for you and we'll do our best to help.

Hi, I'm Sara. It should give you some measure of comfort to know that I made my first attempt at writing a novel when I was nine years old. Less comforting is the unsurprising fact that the attempt was not successful. I did not finish writing that novel, but I have continued to write both creatively and academically in all my years since then. My first passion of reading led me to writing, and I still read voraciously. I love having new things to read, so I really can’t wait to see your work.

Hailing from parts unknown (as well as Rochester, Minnesota), Kevin Kimlinger emerged sometime in late 2009 from the Northwoods as a fully qualified writing tutor. Upon realizing that he could only speak a language that bears understood, he enrolled at Bemidji State University and is currently a sophomore as a Creative and Professional Writing major. With his amazing new grasp of the English tongue he is once again eager to help students with any writing concerns they may have.  So come on in, get some help with your writing, and maybe even learn a word or two in Bear.

Hello, I am Sunny and I will be more than glad to work with you and help you perfect your art of writing college papers and projects. Please feel free to stop by the Writing Resource Center, maybe get someone else to look at your piece of writing and/or just hang with us if you want to get to know new people. I look forward to meeting you. Have a nice day and good luck in all your endeavors.

Hi, I’m Steve. In attending BSU for almost four years now, I’ve picked up a few fair skills in writing and research; but until now, I’ve not had the chance to share my knowledge with anyone else. Here at the Writing Resource Center I will gladly collaborate with you in your writing so that we may both come out the better.

Hey, I'm Dean. I've been into writing for about four years now, and it's something I'm enjoying more and more. Everything from generating ideas, to sentence structure, to the minuta of details all have their place, but getting it all down on the page sometimes isn't easy.

Here in the Writing Center, I'll be more than glad to help flesh out ideas and bring them to life, look at the facets that can give a piece personality, and everything in between.

Hey, I'm Kevin McColley. I’m made my living for more than twenty years as a professional novelist. I’ve published six novels and have been twice nominated for the National Book Award, as well as having won or been a finalist for many other literary prizes. I’m back in school now because I love books and I want to know more about them. I can help you with your papers and writing projects, so I hope that you’ll stop by.

Hi, I'm Sarah, and I've been into writing since high school where not only did I take advanced placement classes, but also started my first novel. I enjoy reading and writing young adult fiction, but have experience writing argumentative and analytical essays too. I'm the first person my friends go to when they need help on their essays, and that is what led me into wanting to help out at the Writing Resource Center. Whether you write for fun or for class, I will be glad to look over your work with you

Greetings from the Writing Resource Center, I'm Jeanette Lukowski. After years of retail and office jobs, I transitioned to freelance writing about the same time I began graduate school (a millennial move). Thanks to Frankie Condon, Stephen North, and Lev Vygotsky, I learned about writing centers while studying the fine art of teaching. (I even utilized the campus writing center while hammering out my thesis--true story!) Don't write in isolation--come collaborate with us! Just think of us as your writing consultants.

Brian DonovanHello--I'm Brian Donovan, Professor of English and director of the Writing Resource Center since Fall of 1998, when I took over from my energetic and brilliant predecessor Michael Morgan. I have loved writing centers ever since joining the tutoring staff at the Writing Center at SUNY Albany, then run by Steve North and later by Lil Brannon. (Steve had slept on my floor when he visited the University of Iowa doing research for a doctoral dissertation on writing centers, but I don't think that was his only reason for taking me on when I showed up at Albany.) For more about me, see my home page.

Come on down to HS 110 for one-on-one help with your writing projects--and remember, when you're just getting started and may not even have anything down on paper yet, that may be the best time of all to start working with one of our Writing Assistants. See you there!
