BSU is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.

BSU is among a select group of leaders in EPA's Green Power Partnership.
Sustainability is not only a commitment of BSU, but the City of Bemidji has determined that being "green" is also good for the greater community. Mayor Richard Lehmann signed the Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement (go here for more information) on Earth Day, 2007. The Bemidji Sustainability Committee was an idea formulated by a former City Council member in 2008, and really gained momentum when Bemidji Mayor Richard Lehmann mandated the creation of the Committee in the Fall of 2009. The Committee began as a loose coalition of sustainability advocates in October, 2009, and meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the City Hall. Meetings are open to all interested individuals. Council member Kevin Waldhausen acts as the Council Liaison for the Committee.
