Biology Major, B.S.

This program is designed for students who desire to prepare themselves for a variety of entry level professional positions in the biological sciences or who choose to prepare themselves for graduate school in the biological or medical sciences. The program is flexible and the judicious choice of restricted electives, selected in consultation with one's academic advisor in Biology, will allow the student to specialize in areas such as morphology, physiology, systematics, environmental biology, natural history, or molecular biology.

III. Capstone Experience

This requirement may be completed in one of the following ways:

1. Complete a two-semester, 4-credit research course (2 credits per semester) -- Advanced Projects in Biology (BIOL 4894, BIOL 4895).
2. Participate in a summer research experience at another university. Register for at least one credit of BIOL 4910, BIOL 4970, or BIOL 4980.
3. Complete some other capstone experience approved by your biology academic advisor and the department chair.

Select electives from Biology courses numbered 2300 and above (with the exception of BIOL 2925) to achieve a minimum of 77 semester credits for the major.

Note: Students planning to pursue graduate school in the biological and/or medical sciences should take CHEM 1211, CHEM 1212, either PHYS 2101, PHYS 2102 or PHYS 1101, PHYS 1102 (consult your Biology academic advisor), and MATH 2471, MATH 2472 instead of CHEM 1111, CHEM 1112, GEOL 1110, GEOL 1120, and MATH 2171, MATH 2172.
