English Course Desciptions
Note: A bachelor's degree requires 128 credits, one-third (42 credits) of which must be taken at the 3000 and 4000 levels. Please keep this in mind when selecting electives for the B.F.A.
Please also note that by taking additional courses, students may obtain teacher licensure with the B.F.A. Consult the English department chair for details.
I. Required Writing Component
Take the following two courses (6 credits):
- ENGL 2101 Intermediate Writing (3 credits)
- ENGL 3101 Advanced Writing (3 credits)
Take two courses in each of two of the following genres, plus two additional courses (18 credits):
- Fiction
- ENGL 2110 Introduction to Writing Fiction (3 credits)
- ENGL 3110 Advanced Fiction Writing (3 credits)
- Poetry
- ENGL 2120 Introduction to Writing Poetry (3 credits)
- ENGL 3120 Advanced Poetry Writing (3 credits)
- Creative Nonfiction
- ENGL 2140 Introduction to Writing Creative Nonfiction (3 credits)
- ENGL 3140 Advanced Creative Nonfiction Writing (3 credits)
- Scriptwriting/Playwriting
- ENGL 2130 Introduction to Writing Scripts and Plays (3 credits)
- ENGL 3130 Advanced Scriptwriting (3 credits)
- Professional Writing
- ENGL 2150 Technical Writing (3 credits)
- ENGL 3160 Introduction to Web Site Design and Content Writing (3 credits)
- ENGL 4170 Advanced Web Design and Content Writing (3 credits)

II. Required Literature Component
With consent of advisor, select 12 credits in additional English courses; 9 credits must be at the 2000 level or above; College Writing may not be used.

III. Required Elective Component
With consent of advisor, select 21 credits in an individualized, focused program.

IV. Required Senior Project
- ENGL 4881 Senior Project I, semester one of senior year (1 credit)
- ENGL 4882 Senior Project II, semester two of senior year (2 credits)
