The History curriculum includes historical foundation courses in American, European, and Asian history, and addresses national and international topics and issues through specialized courses on Ancient Greece and Rome, the American West, Modern China, women and history, the American Civil War and Reconstruction, and religion in America.
History majors are encouraged to study a foreign language and to travel/study abroad. A bachelor's degree in history is excellent preparation for law school, the seminary, and graduate study.
Note: The State of Minnesota does not grant a separate license for teaching history at the secondary level. Students wishing to teach history in secondary schools should complete the Social Studies major, B.S., teacher licensure and elect the emphasis in history. These students can increase their depth of understanding in the field and their employability by also completing the B.S. History major.
