In Career and Technical Education, theories and other philosophical approaches to education are taught in the context of practical experience. For example, students who wish to teach in the construction area will already have work experience in that area. In the Career and Technical Education program, that experience is combined with teaching methodologies. Career and Technical Education offers degree and non-degree licensures. State of Minnesota Career and Technical Education licensure requires a combination of technical competency and some related work experience. Individuals should consult with an advisor to determine the specific requirements for their field.
Note: Students interested in teaching career and technical education who do not yet have work experience may consider a bachelor of science degree in Technology Education. (See the Industrial Technology section in this catalog.)
The Bachelor of Science in Career and Technical Education does not meet licensure requirements for secondary school teaching in technology education or business education.
Significant changes in secondary licensure for career and technical education have recently taken place. Individuals should consult with a faculty advisor to determine what requirements will need to be met.

Students are encouraged to discuss with their advisor the option of a second major or minor or endorsements that might strengthen or complement their major.
Transfer Students: At least one-third of the credits to be included in the major must be successfully completed at Bemidji State University.
