To develop writers and speakers who use the English language effectively and who read, write, speak, and listen critically. As a base, all students should complete introductory communication requirements early in their collegiate studies. Writing competency is an ongoing process to be reinforced through writing-intensive courses and writing across the curriculum. Speaking and listening skills need reinforcement through multiple opportunities for interpersonal communication, public speaking, and discussion.
Critical ThinkingThe practice of critical thinking skills that are particular to the written and oral communication process, including the ability to gather and apply factual information, the imagination to seek a variety of interpretations and perspectives, the skill to analyze logical connections between facts and assumptions, and the ability to recognize and articulate the value assumptions made by ourselves and others.
Student CompetenciesStudents will be able to:
- ENGL 1101: College Writing I (3 credits)
- ENGL 1102: College Writing II (3 credits)
