Developmental Electives (DEVL)

0910 ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE: ADVANCED LISTENING AND SPEAKING (2 credits) Development of listening and speaking skills for students whose native language is not English. Emphasis on analysis of spoken English for grammar, vocabulary and main ideas. Speaking tasks include role plays, interviews, pronunciation practices.

0920 ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE: ADVANCED READING AND WRITING (2 credits) Development of reading and writing skills for students whose native language is not English. Emphasis on grammar, vocabulary,, and organizational patterns. Enrollment determined by score on English Proficiency Exams.

0970 LIFE CAREER PLANNING (2 credits) This course is designed to give students a realistic view of the world of work. Values clarification, cross-cultural communications, and job shadowing are key elements of this course. Several career assessment instruments are administered, including Discover, SDS, Myers Briggs, and Fundamental Interpersonal Response Orientation (FIRO-B).

0980 READING AND STUDY SKILLS (2 credits) Emphasis is placed on the skills critical to college success. Time management, improved reading strategies, listening, note taking, and test taking are taught through practical application using a variety of materials, including the students' own textbooks.
