Cell and Molecular Biology Field of Emphasis

The courses are selected to permit the student to emphasize the area of cellular and molecular biology. The purpose is to prepare students who have a special interest in this area to teach, work, or pursue graduate studies.

This emphasis is neither a major nor a minor but only further restricts the restricted electives of the Biology Major, B.S. degree. The student may complete this emphasis by substituting the courses as outlined below for the restricted electives category of the Biology Major, B.S. program.

I. Required Courses

• BIOL 207 Molecular Genetics II (4 credits)
• BIOL 208 Molecular Genetics Laboratory (4 credits)
• BIOL 358 Immunology (5 credits)
• BIOL 366 Radioisotopes (5 credits)
• BIOL 371 Microbiology (5 credits)

• BIOL 469 Molecular Biology (4 credits)

II. Required Elective Courses

• Select a minimum of 6 credits from the following courses:

Naturalist Field of Emphasis

The suggested courses are designed to augment the student's biology major with an emphasis in field biology. This program is designed to equip the student to teach effectively in field situations, to work as a naturalist, or to pursue graduate training in field biology or environmental studies.

Since most of the listed courses fall within the restricted electives of either the Biology Major, B.S. or the Biology Major, B.A. programs, students may complete this emphasis with careful selection of courses while completing the requirements for the B.S. or B.A. degrees. This emphasis is neither a major nor a minor but only a series of selected courses designed to provide some level of specialization in field biology within a Biology or Life Science major.
