Biology Minor, B.S. or B.A.

The Biology minor is designed to support other fields of study such as chemistry, physics, geology, environmental studies and certain business majors. The program will complement and enhance many majors, but does not in and by itself lead to a career choice.

Transfer students must take a minimum of 6 quarter hours in the minor at Bemidji State University.

I. Required Biology Courses

• BIOL 111, 112, 113 General Biology (12 credits)
  or BIOL 121, 122, 123 Introductory Biology, Lecture and Lab (9 credits) and
  BIOL 120 Introductory Biology Laboratory (3 credits)

Subtotal: 12 credits

II. Electives in Biology

• At least one course must be taken in each of the three areas listed in the Biology Major, B.S.:
  A. Morphology, Taxonomy, and Natural History
  B. Physiology
  C. Environmental Biology
  *A course in genetics may be substituted for a course in any of the three areas.

  • Subtotal: 18 credits

TOTAL QUARTER HOURS REQUIRED FOR MINOR: 30-39 CREDITS

NOTE: In the Biology Minor, B.S. or B.A. BIOL 203 Human Anatomy and Physiology I and BIOL 204 Human Anatomy and Physiology II may be accepted for credit toward the degree with the following stipulations:

• Both of the above courses must be taken to receive credit for BIOL 321 Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy and BIOL 322 Vertebrate Physiology
• If both of the above courses are used for credit, then BIOL 321 Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy and BIOL 322 Vertebrate Physiology cannot be used for credit toward the degree.
