I.Required Courses (Core)

• ENGL:
  • Complete one course from English, American, or world literature listings on the 200-level (3-4 credits)
• HST:
  • Complete one course from Western Civilization I, II, III or American, European or non-Western History listings on the 200-level (4 credits)
• HUM 100 Human Culture and Ideas (4 credits)
• HUM 200 European Culture and Civilization (4 credits)
• HUM 201 American Culture and Civilization (4 credits)
• HUM 202 Non-Western Cultures and Civilization (4 credits)
• HUM 492 Senior Seminar (4 credits)
• Language:
  • Complete a one year course sequence in one of the following languages: French, German, Ojibwe, or Spanish. (12-15 credits)
• MUS: 101 Introduction to Music
  or MUS 102 Folk, Jazz, and Rock (3 credits)
• PHIL:
  • Complete either PHIL 101 or any 200-level Philosophy course (4 credits)
• VSAR: Complete one of the following:
  • VSAR 100 Introduction to Art (3 credits)
  • VSAR 255 Art History Survey I (4 credits)
  • VSAR 256 Art History Survey II (4 credits)
  • VSAR 257 Art History Survey III (4 credits)

Subtotal: 49-54 credits

II. Required Option.

Select one of the following:

• A. Humanities Discipline Option (16 credits)
  • Select with the consent of adviser 16 quarter hours of course work, mainly at the 300-level or higher. Course work may be selected from one of the following departments: English, History, Modern and Classical Languages, Music, Philosophy, Speech/Theatre, or Visual Arts.
• B. American Studies Option (16 credits)
  • Select with consent of adviser 16 quarter hours in courses concerned with civilization in the United States. Courses selected should include several disciplines to ensure breadth of study.
