Physics Major, B.S.

The Physics Department continually amends its programs to reflect developments in the field. Consult with an adviser regarding pending majors, minors and options.

Option A. Engineering-Physics

This program is designed for students who plan to work in industry after graduation. This program is also suitable preparation for graduate study in some areas of engineering and applied science. It emphasizes selected areas of applied physics, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering, with extensive computer applications.

I.Transfer students must take minimum of 15 quarter hours in physics at Bemidji State University.

II. Required Courses

Subtotal: 98 credits

III. Required Electives:

Complete at least 3 quarter hours of Physics course work from Physics courses numbered 323 or above. 3 credits

TOTAL QUARTER HOURS REQUIRED FOR MAJOR, B.S., OPTION A: 101 CREDITS


Suggested Schedule For Physics Major, B.S., Option A, Engineering-Physics

The following is a list of required Engineering-Physics courses arranged by year. This schedule is intended to help students plan their courses in an orderly fashion; however, these are only suggestions and this schedule is flexible. Since some advanced courses are offered on alternate years, consult with Department Chair for current schedule.

Option B. Physics

This program is designed for students who plan to attend graduate school in physics or in some closely related field, such as geophysics, materials science, or certain areas of engineering.

I.Transfer students must take a minimum of 15 quarter hours in physics at Bemidji State University.

II. Required Courses

Subtotal: 89 credits

III. Required Electives

Complete at least 12 quarter hours of Physics course work with aid of adviser. 12 credits

TOTAL QUARTER HOURS REQUIRED FOR MAJOR, B.S., OPTION B: 101 CREDITS

*NOTE: Students with no prior exposure to computers may need to take CS 114 as a prerequisite.
