Art Major, B.A.

I.Transfer students must earn a minimum of 33 quarter hours in the major at Bemidji State University (see Visual Arts introduction).

II. Required Courses:

• Art Studio:
  • VSAR 110 Introduction to Design (3 credits)
  • VSAR 117 Introduction to Drawing (3 credits)
  • VSAR 211 Design II (3 credits)
  • VSAR 217 Drawing II (3 credits)

• Art History:
  • VSAR 255 Art History Survey I (4 credits)
  • VSAR 256 Art History Survey II (4 credits)
  • VSAR 257 Art History Survey III (4 credits)
  • VSAR 354 Early 20th Century Art
    or VSAR 355 Art Since 1945 (4 credits)

Subtotal: 16 credits

• Visual Studies:
  • VSAR 457 Contemporary Theory and Criticism
    or VSAR 492 Directed Group Study (3 credits)
  • VSAR 459 Senior Exhibit/Thesis Project (3 credits)

Subtotal: 6 credits

III. Required Visual Arts Electives

Students may elect to form two areas of emphasis of 9 quarter hours each, or to pursue a concentration of at least 12 quarter hours with up to 6 quarter hours of related course work. 18 credits
