Art Major B.A.

This major is designed to work in conjunction with additional majors or minors in other departments, i.e., Business, Indian Studies, Mass Communications, Biology and Psychology.

Note: Transfer students must earn a minimum of 21 semester credits in the major at Bemidji State University.

I. Required Courses

A. Core

VSAR 1101 Visual Foundations I (3 credits)
VSAR 1102 Visual Foundations II (3 credits)
VSAR 2107 Visual Foundations III (3 credits)
VSAR 2551 Art History Survey I (4 credits)
VSAR 2552 Art History Survey II (4 credits)

B. Additional Visual Studies

VSAR 2150 Life Drawing (3 credits)
or VSAR 3100 Intermediate Drawing (3 credits)
VSAR 4707 Portfolio Seminar (2 credits)
or VSAR 4800 Senior Exhibit/Thesis Project (3 credits)

C. Concentration (9 credits; at least 7 credits must be taken at 3000 or higher.)

May be taken in graphic design, drawing, printmaking, painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry/metals, art history, Native American Art, mixed media, community arts management, or a two-dimensional or three dimensional cumulative concentration. In addition, this concentration requires an Art Museum Experience.
