5837 EVALUATION IN CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (2 credits) A study of testing and measurement techniques and applications in occupational programs. The construction of teacher-made performance tests, written tests, rating scales, and checklists is emphasized. Vendor and standardized are included.

5839 INDUSTRIAL/CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION STUDENT ORGANIZATION (2 credits) Acquaints students with the issues of planning and implementation of student organizations. Also includes student organizations at the secondary and post-secondary levels and their relationship to state and federal policy and legislation.

5847 METHODS OF TEACHING CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (2 credits) Instructional methodology used in the implementation of occupationally and technically oriented curriculum.

5848 ADULT LEARNING IN A WORK ENVIRONMENT (2 credits) A course intended to acquaint the current practitioner with the basics of adult learning theory and its use in the design of training programs.

5850 PHILOSOPHY OF CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (2 credits) A study of the history, philosophy, and practices of vocational education. Includes a survey of curriculum characteristics, certification requirements, professional organizations, and career options.

5857 METHODS OF TEACHING INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY/VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (4 credits) Approaches and delivery strategies for teaching technology education. Instructional technologies, records management, lesson planning and classroom practica. Prerequisites: IT 5850 or consent of instructor.

5858 CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT IN TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION, AND CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (2 credits) The philosophy of curriculum and course construction. Gives special attention to the formulation of purposes, selection and sequence of activities, and learner outcomes and assessment.

5859 SPECIAL NEEDS IN CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (2 credits) Objectives, materials, and methods of developing and modifying curriculum in the various vocational fields for students with special needs.

5870 TECHNICAL SALES/PRESENTATIONS (2 credits) The philosophy and practice of consultative selling. The course stresses the methodology and planning, design, and negotiation of technical sales. The course also covers the basics of designing technical proposals and presentations.

5877 INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY (3 credits) A study of maintenance and safety management with industry. Preventive and maintenance, planning and scheduling of maintenance, OSHA and the development of safety awareness.

5878 QUALITY ASSURANCE (3 credits) The course teaches the theory and applications of statistical analysis, quality problem solving and implementation

5888 WORK/OCCUPATIONAL ASSESSMENT OF LEARNERS (2 credits) An investigation of the use of informal and formal techniques used in the design and implementation of occupational assessment with school systems.

5889 COORDINATION TECHNIQUES OF CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (2 credits) The course involves the role of teacher-coordinators in the design and implementation of internships and other cooperative experimental learning methods.

6000 TECHNICAL RESEARCH DESIGN (3 credits) The fundamentals of statistics and research that will aid students in decision making, analysis, research, and developing strategies for research.

6100 TECHNICAL RESEARCH IMPLEMENTATION (3 credits) This course addresses research and developing strategies for research, and is preparation for a research proposal.

6117 LEADERSHIP STUDIES (3 credits) One component of effective leadership is the ability to evaluate one’s self to identify behaviors associated with effective leadership and behaviors that may hinder one’s leadership potential. Students assess their leadership style and develop an evaluation plan for improvement.

6120 STUDIES IN QUALITY (3 credits) Topics related to a variety of quality issues. Focuses on the application of quality planning and analysis.

6130 INDUSTRIAL PLANNING AND CONTROL (3 credits) Addresses production and operations management and decision making in industry and service enterprises. An introduction to operations management, designing operations, managing operations, and quantitative tools. This course is offered on line.

6140 TOPICS IN QUALITY BENCHMARKING (3 credits) Process benchmarking is one of the most important developments in the last decade of the American quality movement. What skills are needed and what appropriate legal and ethical considerations are involved in benchmarking. Students plan and conduct a benchmarking study and coordinate its efforts across an organization.

6150 READINGS IN MANAGEMENT (3 credits) The first half of the course concentrates on the works on management by Peter F. Drucker and on his writings on innovation, entrepreneurship, high performance organizations, mission, and leadership. The second half looks at the productivity improvement models called Six Sigma and reviews the major current writings on the subject.

6160 DESIGN OF EXPERIMENTS (3 credits) This course covers the foundations of design of experiments including how to plan, conduct and analyze simple balanced and two factor experiments using graphical analysis and prediction equations to confirm and make conclusions about the results of the experiment. In addition, the student conducts analysis of process outputs and variability using traditional and Taguchi methodology.

6170 CONTEMPORARY APPROACHES TO TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION (2 credits) A critique of various approaches used in the secondary schools to study technology education. Each approach is investigated for advantages, disadvantages, and possible adoption procedures and implementation.

6200 APPLICATION OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES (2 credits) In-depth study of specific emerging technology topics. Study research and the application and implementation of emerging technologies in educational or industrial settings.

6220 COMMUNITY RESOURCES FOR SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS (2 credits) The design and technique of identifying and implementing state and local resources for the use of program improvement.

6240 ADVANCED SKILLS IN INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY (1-4 credits) Study of and practice in the skills encountered in the area of the student's choice, such as woods, metals, graphic arts, plastics, or other basic industrial technology area.

6280 INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGIES IN INDUSTRIAL/VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (2 credits) The examination and utilization of advance instructional techniques unique to teaching technology content including the study of slices, video production, interactive video, satellite television, and special computer applications utilized in technology classrooms.

6340 LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION IN INDUSTRIAL/VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (2 credits) Designed to assist vocational personnel to enhance their leadership skills in the supervision of vocational staff as related to instructional and organizational effectiveness. Central components of the course include organizational leadership, structure and climate with emphasis in management of human resources, and the learning environment.

6380 GRANTS AND CONTRACT WRITING (2 credits) A study of the process of grant and contract proposal writing for public and private agencies, including budget preparation and implementation of occupational education.

6870 WRITING AND RESEARCH IN TECHNOLOGY (2 credits) In-depth writing and research in technology. Assists students in developing their research paper or thesis. Prerequisites: IT 6000, IT 6100, and IT 6117.

6970 INTERNSHIP (1-3 credits) When taken as Occupational Internship, the following description applies: A cooperative occupational program where the student will have opportunity for observation and practice in industrial positions combined with seminars on applications, teaching, and guidance of high school and post-high school students.
