The Department of Accountancy offers free federal and state income tax preparation and eFiling, sponsored by the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program scope allows for free tax help to people who generally make $57,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.

Students who have completed BSU’s Tax I course and passed IRS certification tests will be available via email M-Th from Feb 3- April 15 to answer tax questions that are within the VITA scope under the guidance of Jeffery Everhart, assistant professor of business, and Sandra Kranz, adjunct faculty of Accountancy.

If your return is outside the VITA scope, you may still utilize the free software and eFiling, but requests for tax assistance will need to be addressed directly to the IRS.
