Tutoring

If you have excellent grammar and writing skills, you can apply to work as a tutor in the Writing Resource Center.

To work at the WRC, you must be at least a sophomore and have a 3.0 GPA. You will be paid either through regular payroll or a work-study grant.

It is recommended that you visit the Writing Resource Center in HS 110 and have one of your own papers reviewed by the current tutors to gain a better understanding of the job, not just the pay rate and hours, but also the standards established by the tutors. It is not the job of tutors to edit papers for students, but help the student understand his or her strengths and weaknesses. They make it so the student can go forth with a more critical eye of his or her writing style in order to increase the quality of their critical work.

As a tutor, you will take a class in tutoring writing and will help other students with their academic writing assignments and projects.
