Physical Education - Teacher Licensure

The physical education teacher licensure major will prepare you for a career teaching physical education in K-12 schools. Flexibility and variety are at the heart of teaching in the field of physical education. You'll learn about and teach a wide variety of physical activities and sports from basketball and football to dance, golf, skiing, and gymnastics in both recreational and competitive settings. You'll be instrumental in providing your students with the physical fitness skills and knowledge they need to live healthier lives. You?ll help them build self confidence, and learn essential life skills such as cooperation, team work and sportsmanship.

Our program

The physical education teacher licensure program is an integrated program between the Department of Human Performance, Sport, and Health and the Department of Professional Education. The program is designed to meet the Minnesota Board of Teaching (BOT) and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) accreditation requirements, and leads to State of Minnesota teaching certification.

Hands on learning will be at the core of your educational experience. By the time you enter your student teaching internship you'll have already had multiple experiences working with and teaching children in both a school and community setting. Our program emphasizes diversity of experience and preparation, and we focus on giving you the chance to obtain a varied and diverse skill set that will increase your career options.
