FM 90 is your radio station operated as a hands-on training instrument by students in the Mass Communication department. This licensed radio station serves a public audience of 25,000, operating seven days a week. Students choose the music format. The entire broadcast day, including live DJ music, news and sportscasts, public affairs programs and play-by-play sports, is all produced by student management and staff. As a student, participation in FM90 will give you hands-on-training in broadcasting. You will be able to broadcast from remote BSU sporting events. Students can also get involved in broadcast sales and real-time marketing. Your live radio show is also streamed on the Internet, thus heard all over the world. FM90 is a positive unique radio experience for every student in the real world of broadcasting and a constructive asset to your Mass Communication portfolio.

KBSU–TV, A Student Run-Television Station (Channel 17)

KBSU- TV, channel 17, is a hands-on training instrument operated and managed by students in the Mass Communication department. The television station is broadcast in full digital HD carried over several cable systems. Channel 17 can be seen throughout northern Minnesota from Bemidji — Grand Rapids to the Canadian border.

As a student, you will be able to operate the TV station and participate in the generation of locally produced programs, newscasts and specialty shows. All Beaver football and basketball games are student-produced and broadcast over KBSU 17. As part of the TV remote crews, you can do the actual sports play-by-play, camera work, mixing and production on-location. All our television facilities are state-of-the-art digital 1080 HD, ahead of the industry. Your student involvement in KBSU TV will provide a real on-air television experience that looks great on your resume. Become part of the team, join KBSU and put theory into practice.

The Northern Student is a free, student-run magazine distributed to the Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College campuses, parts of the Bemidji community and The Northern Student’s advertising affiliates. We strive to provide the latest information regarding student life in addition to local, national and world news and offer advertising services to both campuses and the Bemidji community. Acting as a voice for the students, we facilitate the desire to learn, the opportunity to voice opinions and the need to be informed.

If you are interested in learning how to promote a large event as well as manage its programming, logistics and technical aspects — working on the Headwaters Film Festival course is perfect for you. You’ll also be involved in evaluating the numerous student-submitted films. We are bringing some of the best student films in the world to Bemidji State.
