Each year, students and faculty in the Mathematics program participate in a number of academic and co-curricular events and celebrations, including conferences, award presentations, and regional contests.
Regular and annual events include:
Honors & Scholarship Reception
Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) Annual Spring Conference
Students interested in a mathematics teaching career can attend the conference to learn about best practices for math instruction and to network with professionals and peers. Learn more about MCTM.
The Northern Minnesota Mathematics Contest consists of a one-hour 40-question multiple-choice test. The junior exam is for 9th and 10th graders and the senior exam for 11th and 12th graders. Plaques, medals and t-shirts are used for awards for team and individual winners.
Pi Mu Epsilon
Each year the BSU Math Department takes students to the Pi Mu Epsilon Conference at the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University in St Cloud. This conference for undergraduate students in mathematics features a keynote speaker and several sessions of presentations by students.
Student Achievement Conference
Students have the opportunity to present their original research each year at the Student Achievement Conference.
