Auditions/Scholarships

Each year, the music faculty selects individuals with outstanding musical talent to receive scholarship awards of varying amounts, from $500 to Full Tuition Scholarships.

Candidates need not be planning a major in music to qualify for scholarship awards. To be considered for a scholarship in music, an incoming student must apply for admission to the University at the earliest opportunity, complete a music scholarship application, submit one letter of recommendation under separate cover, and complete an audition.

Applications for scholarships and auditions for the 2018-2019 year are available at the following links:

On Campus Auditions

On Campus Audition Dates are February 16 and 17, 2018.

At the discretion of the faculty, auditions may also be individually scheduled for those who cannot be present on those dates. Other options for auditioning include live auditions via Skype, recorded auditions, auditioning at the MMEA Midwinter Clinic in Minneapolis, or auditioning for a BSU music faculty member who is visiting your school. Please be aware that only live auditions are acceptable for a full or partial tuition scholarship.

On-campus scholarship auditions will be held in the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex. In addition to the auditions, students will have the opportunity to meet current students and faculty and tour the campus and music facilities.  In addition to audition dates, all students are encouraged to visit our campus at any point during the school year and welcome to observe most classes and ensemble rehearsals.  Upon request, sample lessons are usually available with many of our studio teachers.

To schedule an audition, please contact Steve Carlson at scarlson@bemidjistate.edu or 218-755-3997.
