 1. How do you help your community?

We work on several projects across the communities. Invasive species, native plant community monitoring, forestry measurements, blueberry monitoring, aquatic plant research, and herbarium maintenance.

 2. How do you hope an intern will contribute through the Niizhoo-gwakochigewin program to helping your community?

We are looking for a student interested in the arts. Someone that would care for the plant specimens in our herbarium. It requires patience and attention to detail.

 3. How will you contribute to the education of your intern?

Students will learn about the curation of plant specimens. They will also learn about the plant classification system. They will learn to identify key traits on various plants.

 4. List some responsibilities that an intern might do/projects they might work on.

Students will reference the herbarium catalog and ensure that specimens have been put away in their designated spot. Will work independently to mount specimens and organize the herbarium.

At the end of the internship, we ask that they submit one form of social media outreach to talk about their experience with the herbarium and share how they see it as a valuable resource in the community.

5. Is there anything an intern should know before working with you? (transportation needs, heavy lifting, allergies, specific technical background (ex. GIS), ect.)

Intern will need to have transportation to DRM. They will be exposed to dust and moth balls. Sitting and bending for long periods of time. Attention to detail is a must.
